We think that one reason why some people may be put off from walking the whole of the Chiltern Way is because public transport is impractical and the logistics of how to get back to your car when you have walked a section are quite difficult. With a solution to this in mind and to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Chiltern Way we invite you to join us to hike this attractive path in a special series of fourteen guided Sunday walks. It is not necessary to be a member of The Chiltern Society to walk with the group. It is however essential that you agree to take part in the ‘two car shuffle’ with other drivers, to get to and from the ends of the walk. The plan is for walkers to meet at 9.30 am at a car parking area located near to where the walk will end that day. The walk leader will then invite drivers and passengers to ‘pair off’ into groups so that one or more cars can be left where the hike will finish and the other car or cars takes the group to where the day’s walk starts.

After walking from there, at the end of the hike, drivers of the cars parked at the finish will return the rest of their groups to their vehicles. The average day’s walk will be about ten miles and the longest one will be less than twelve. The leader will select occasional brief rest breaks and a stop for a picnic lunch, aiming to complete the walk around three or four o’clock in the afternoon. Don’t forget to bring drinks and food for these longer walks! If you are looking for shorter walks in the Chilterns, the “Simply Walks” programme run by Buckinghamshire County Council will be of interest. See their website.

The Chiltern Society would like to thank all the volunteers who have offered to lead walks for this walking festival, and we would also like to thank all the other organisations who have joined in; parish councils, local heritage groups and walking groups.
