Farming liaison

At the beginning of the new millenium we, Chiltern Society, published our Vision for the Chilterns in the 21st Century in which it was recognised that the Chiltern landscape is inseparable from the traditional style of farming that created and maintained it.

The survival of agriculture is one of the document's main planks and yet it's becoming increasingly obvious that this type of farming is under threat within the modern world economy.

The Chiltern Society Farming Liaison Group was set up to ‘promote farming to conserve and enhance the Chiltern countryside and wildlife’.

Part of that promotion is via the Group's report, Farming and the Future of the Chilterns Landscape. Formulated using the responses to a questionnaire sent to more than 2,000 addresses on the DEFRA database, which lie within the Chiltern Society's catchment area, the report outlines just how important farming is in this context.
