Heritage Group

An entirely new Chiltern Society Heritage Group (CSHG) has been created to identify and develop projects that aim to inform, champion, and as required to campaign to protect the history and heritage within The Chilterns. CSHG projects may cover but will not be tightly constrained to:

• Ancient monuments and areas of archaeological importance
• Chiltern industrial history and archaeology
• History of Chiltern agriculture
• Listed or other historic buildings
• Social history of the Chilterns, including people, places and events.

Possible projects might investigate the history and heritage of Chilterns pubs, schools, industrial buildings, churches, farm buildings and so on. Other potential large projects include cooperation with the Chilterns Conservation Board on the possible Hillforts Project or help with the continuation of the very successful Chilterns Commons Project. The CSHG will also seek opportunities to acquire or manage additional sites with heritage value or similar historical interest. Full membership of CSHG is open to all members of the Chiltern Society.

All those interested in suggesting a possible project, supporting the activities of the Group and steering the direction and priorities of the new Group – whatever your interest – do please email the Chairman of the Heritage Group or the Volunteer Co-ordinator

HS2 Project

Rights of Way Group (ROWG)

The Rights of Way Group does all it can to secure improvements to the path network in the Chilterns, to prevent or mitigate changes which would harm it, and to provide opportunities for its enjoyment.

Vacancies
Occasionally, the ROWG has vacancies for Area Secretaries as indicated by the word 'Vacant' below. If you are willing to help in monitoring rights of way and as a consequence help us maintain them, where a vacancy exists, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator.

Area Secretaries, who form the bulk of the Rights of Way Group Committee, monitor paths on a regular basis with the help of a large number of Path Representatives and review all proposed orders for changes to the path network. The Group runs walks and cycling programmes and creates the Society's Footpath Maps.
