Chiltern Society & Forestry Commission

Conservation work at Wendover Woods

Wendover Conservation GroupThis conservation group is based in the Wendover area and is coordinated by John Rennie, a recent Chiltern Society member, with support from a group of members on planning, catering (coffee and biscuits), tool supply and maintenance.

The group’s regular work parties are on the first and third Tuesdays of each month, focusing on a wide range of conservation projects at Wendover Woods and other nearby areas of woodland. We provide help to the Forestry Commission on a number of projects: clearing paths, cutting back undergrowth, opening up views from Wendover Woods over the surrounding countryside and clearing historical monument sites including an iron age hill fort and part of Grim’s Dyke. Our regular pattern is work from 10:00 – 13:00.

If you would like to get involved with this group, meet new people, get free exercise in the fresh air AND make a difference to the environment please call: John Rennie on 07880 363546 (preferred) or 01753 887556; or Geoff Wiggett (Chiltern Society Volunteer Coordinator) on 01442 875906.

The reintroduction of red kites in the Chilterns is perhaps the most well known project with which we've been involved.

We continue to be a vital help in a wide variety of conservation schemes in the region.
