Bottom Wood The Chiltern Society

Chilterns Conservation Board CommendationAward-winning work

Thanks to our volunteers, in 2006 Bottom Wood was Highly Commended “For the restoration of species-rich chalk grassland…” by the Chilterns Conservation Board.

Volunteers

Most work needed, for example, planting, fencing, and other maintenance is done by volunteers.

An example of hedge laying by volunteers, at Toothill in Bottom Wood, is shown in the picture on this page. Contractors are brought in occasionally for major felling and timber extraction.

Work parties take place on one Sunday per month from October to April. Occasionally, work parties are also held on weekdays and during the summer – details in can be seen under Management in the menu above (follow the link for ‘Work/events’).

New volunteers are most welcome. If you would like to volunteer, please contact the Chiltern Society office on 01494 771250, or the Volunteer Coordinator, whose details can be found in the Society directory.
